Downtown Portland Director Park | A Unique Portland Neighborhood

When condo developments, businesses, offices and entertainment (Fox Towers) complexes being built, the area warranted additional parking spaces for downtown Portland. And, plans for Director Park were set in motion.

Director Park is a beautiful urban public park, but sans the normal grass and trees of a typical “park.” It was designed to be a street level oasis, which sits atop a 700 space, below-ground parking garage.

Rather than build another hideous looking parking structure above ground, Director Park in Downtown Portland was designed, thankfully, to hide that under the rug Director Park.

At night Director Park lights up and is all pretty basking in the illuminations. I’ll try to get some nighttime pics, the glass canopy is amazing. The water feature (seen in the center, as the half-circle), is a beautiful backdrop.

The area used to be a city block of flat surface parking. In the corner was a food cart trailer: The Snow White House creperie. Of all the things I miss now that the new Director Park has opened, is Snow White’s crepes! The woman who operated the food cart made the most delicious, filling eats! I don’t know where she relocated to.

When you’re at Director Park in Downtown Portland it really is hard to imagine that beneath you is a parking garage!

If you’ve never been to Director Park in Downtown Portland, is off the MAX line and easily accessible via public transportation. But, if you do drive in, you know where to park!

Check out a flick at Fox Tower at Regal’s Fox Tower then stroll over to an outdoor cafe (SW corner of Director Park) and enjoy the newest, urban park in the center of the city!

Back to School In Beaverton ~ When Does School Start in Beaverton?

Elementary School

  • The first day of school for students in grades 1-5 is Tuesday, September 8, 2105.
  • The first day for the first 1/2 of each kindergarten class will be Tuesday, September 8, 2015
  • The first day for the second 1/2 (only) of the kindergarten class will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

Each elementary school will determine which kindergarten students begin on September 8 and which kindergarten students begin on September 9, 2015 ~ Check with you school!

Middle School

Where Are Free Flicks by the Fountain in Beaverton?What is Flicks? Flicks by the Fountain is an outdoor movie series that is held in Beaverton City Park (SW 5th and Hall). Every August, movies are shown on an inflatable movie screen that measures approximately 50 feet wide by 30 feet tall

The address is: 12375 SW 5th Ave, Beaverton OR 97005 ~ Beaverton City Park (Across from Beaverton City Library, SW 5th and Hall)

Event Details & Regulations

  • Movies begin at dusk (depending on the date and the cloud cover, dusk ranges from about 8:10 to 8:40 pm).
  • Food and drink will be for sale at the events, though you may also bring your own food and beverages from home.
  • Low-back chairs and blankets are recommended (elevated chairs and high-back chairs will be allowed, but people with these items will be asked to locate them in designated areas).
  • No alcohol is allowed.
  • No pets are allowed.
  • No smoking is allowed.
  • Parking is located next to Beaverton City Library and in the parking lot where the Farmers Market is held.
  • Restroom facilities are located in the park.
  • The fountain at Beaverton City Park will be turned off all day on the days Flicks by the Fountain will be held.
