Interestingly, Charbonneau was named for Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, the son of Sacagawea.
Charbonneau began in 1972 as a nine-hole golf course with 228 town homes bordering the course. With Charbonneau’s adoption of land use planning and urban growth boundaries to prevent urban sprawl, Charbonneau has become a highly desirable area in the City of Wilsonville. It has grown to a population of about 3,500 with 1,158 multi-family units and 510 houses with many of the properties integrated around the 27-hole Carbonneau Country Club and Charbonneau Golf Course, a public golf course in Charbonneau . Charbonneau has a small commercial district with about 10 shops including a grocery store and restaurant. While Charbonneau is within the limits of the City of Wilsonville, the Charbonneau District holds an identity separate from that of the rest of the city.
Charbonneau is located on the eastern bank of the Willamette River just north of the Aurora Municipal Airport.
