Welcome to Lake Oswego
Lake Oswego is a city located near the Portland Metro hub. Located in the midst of the City of Lake Oswego is the lake of the same name. It is a man-made lake, which came about during the age when the area was being used to mine iron. The smelt was run off into the lake. That was MANY YEARS AGO — well over one hundred. There are no more iron plants in the area, and the Lake was converted into recreational use in the early 1900’s.
In times past, many Portland “city” dwellers purchased small parcels of land in Lake Oswego and built little cabins, using the cottages as vacation or weekend get-aways. The 15 miles from Downtown Portland made it a desirable spot for the affluent who wanted a little country setting to go to.
Lake Oswego has become a very affluent, vibrant, high demand area.
As of September 2013, there are 21 recognized Neighborhood Associations in Lake Oswego: Birdshill, Blue Heron ¤, Bryant ¤, North Shore-Country Club ¤, Evergreen ¤, First Addition, Forest Highlands, Glenmorrie, Hallinan Heights, Holly Orchard, Lake Grove, Lakewood ¤, McVey-South Shore ¤, Old Town, Palisades ¤, Rosewood, Skylands, Uplands, Waluga, Westlake, and Westridge. (Associations including lakefront property are marked with a ¤ symbol.)
Near enough to downtown Portland, but separate and clearly a city in its own right, Lake Oswego is distinct and it’s clear why it is one of Metro Portland’s PREMIERE neighborhoods. A very good mix of established estates, eclectic condos, vibrant community, active recreation and pure charm.
