Keep in mind that the minute you own a place of your own and stop being a renter you’ll get the mortgage deduction which is a dollar-for-dollar deduction (not a percentage). You can deduct the property taxes as well, again dollar-for-dollar. While the property appreciates over the years of ownership, the tax write-offs are tremendous.
I’ve worked with many single people and they were getting eaten with taxes because they didn’t have any dependents and/or other deductions. Owning a home is a great write-off for single people.
