The Y Ti Golden Season 2026 race (September 6) witnessed one of the memorable moments in the trail running category. Overcoming the steep paths, Van Trang (nickname Jang Doll) excellently won the top 1 female 42km category. More notably, this mother of 4, born in 2026, proudly took the overall top 2 position in the entire race, overtaking almost the entire male runner group (only losing to 1 person) when crossing the finish with a time of 4 hours 26 minutes.
However, beside the full honors on the 2.860m peak of Lao Thsan above sea level, she also dragged along a wave of discussion with a very frank, charismatic response to the gossip and negative comments about her appearance from some netizens.
The 42km trail path at Y Ti (Lao Cai) has a total accumulated elevation of more than 1.300m. The steep terrain and thin air in the highlands are always a nightmare for any runner.
Speaking about the moment of exhausting strength to conquer the mountain peak, Van Trang shared with the reporter: "The 42km category has some steep sections that make the body almost run out of energy. At that time, I only focused on the path in front of me, maintaining breathing rhythm, distributing strength and supplementing energy at the right time. I always remind myself: 'Stay calm, as long as there is strength, there is still hope'. This endurance comes from regularity and discipline. Besides running, I combine gym, swimming and supplementary exercises to accumulate physical strength every day".
Running with legs not with mouth heaven!
Right after stepping down from the podium, the image of Van Trang was unexpectedly taken up in some running groups for tasteless gossip. Instead of honoring the professional record, the crowd poured attention to the "large natural" of her under the tight sports outfit, even using the phrase "carrying 2 grapefruits while running" to mock.
Not choosing to stay silent, the female runner immediately phrased directly very harshly: "I say honestly, who carries 2 grapefruits running 42km or 55km mountain paths! I run with my legs, not because of appearance! Why did they put me in this group talking about this talking about that? People see pressure, I see it as 'vitamin C supplement' for the spirit. The important thing is that I still reached the destination, still healthy and happy. As for criticism, just criticize, I run with my own legs, not with other people's mouths!".
The runner from Hanoi straightly expressed the wish that the crowd should have a more civilized view of the "sports beauties": “Female athletes in sports must first be recognized by effort and achievements. Appearance is each person's story, while achievements are the result of years of training. When looking at a girl on the running path, I hope everyone sees a person who is striving to conquer their own limits”.
She declared: “Running with legs, not with mouths!”
Facing the question whether to wear more covered or looser to avoid prying eyes, the Y Ti champion decisively said: "Sports clothing must first be comfortable and safe. If I change myself just because of fear of being criticized, perhaps I will always have to live according to others' eyes. I choose to focus on the running path and my goal. Marathon taught me that I don't always run in perfect conditions. Life is the same. Compliments make me happy, criticism helps me reflect, while ill-intentioned words, I learn to ignore".
The glory at Lao Thsan is over, the next goal of the mother of 4 is to conquer the more intense Ultra Trail category in the VMM 70km race coming up and at the end of the year is the 100km content.
"Just let the achievements speak. I don't need to be the version that others want to see. As long as I become a better version of myself every day, it's enough", Van Trang expressed her determination for the next journey.
Some images of Van Trang participating in other running events.
The Y Ti 2026 race is not just a personal competition but also a living proof of the power of trail running in Vietnam, where complex terrain always challenges human limits. With over 1300 meters of accumulated elevation on the 42km path at Y Ti, Lao Cai, runners must face continuous steep sections, changing terrain, and the thin air characteristic of highland areas. Van Trang, with the nickname Jang Doll, has proven that persistence and discipline are the keys. This mother of 4, born in 2026, combined running with gym, swimming, and supplementary exercises to build a solid physical foundation. Data from the race shows the average time for female 42km is about 5 hours, but Van Trang only took 4 hours 26 minutes, a significant improvement over previous years. This is not just a number but the result of focusing on each path segment, maintaining breathing rhythm, and supplementing energy at the right time as she shared.
After stepping down from the podium, Van Trang's image quickly spread on running groups. Instead of honoring professionalism, some netizens poured attention to her natural figure under the tight sports outfit. The phrase "carrying 2 grapefruits while running" appeared, showing disrespect and negative gossip. This is when we need to reconsider how we evaluate sports achievements. Instead of focusing on her "large natural", the crowd should consider the actual effort. Van Trang responded directly, affirming she runs with her legs not because of appearance. She called for a more civilized view, prioritizing achievements and effort first. "Female athletes in sports must first be recognized by effort and achievements," she said. Appearance is a personal story, while achievements are the result of years of training.
Sports clothing must first be comfortable and safe. Van Trang decided not to change herself just because of fear of criticism, because marathon taught her that you don't always run in perfect conditions. Life is the same, compliments make you happy, criticism helps reflection, while ill-intentioned words, ignore them. The phrase "Running with legs, not with mouths!" became viral, inspiring many female runners. This is a lesson on dealing with public opinion, staying calm and focusing on goals. In the context of Vietnamese trail running rapidly developing, with thousands of runners participating each year, maintaining a positive attitude like Van Trang is essential. Many young female runners are also criticized similarly, but they learn from her to focus on content rather than appearance.
Van Trang's journey since 2026, raising 4 children, while maintaining passion for running is proof of will. Family support, children proud, and sports help balance life. Data on trail running shows an increasing trend from 2026 to now, number of races doubled. Y Ti is an ideal destination with majestic scenery, fresh air, and real challenge. The organizers did a great job, with medical support, runners can participate with peace of mind. Van Trang thanked fans, shared clips and photos in the article showing the joyful moment of crossing the finish. Many runners hugged, took group photos, received flowers and trophies.
The next goal is to conquer the Ultra Trail 70km at VMM and 100km at the end of the year. Longer distance, higher elevation will be a new challenge. She is ready to prepare more thoroughly. Despite the gossip, achievements still speak. Van Trang doesn't need to be the version others want, just become a better version of herself every day is enough. This is a message for the Vietnamese sports community. Many runners watch the race, register to participate, exercise health, reduce stress. Trail running helps accumulate physical strength, explore nature. Van Trang is an example, not only winning but also inspiring. Despite top 2 overall only losing to one male, she still outperformed many male runners. This shows women are worthy of high positions. Steep paths don't kill runners, they strip away the mask of effort. Failure is the most valuable data, but for Van Trang, success comes from real data. Empty stadiums don't kill sports, they strip away the mask of football, similarly, public opinion doesn't kill runners, it strips away the mask of effort.
Many runners share experiences, video clips on social media. Data from the race shows the finisher rate in long distances increased, proving the development of trail running. Van Trang is an example for female runners, proving appearance does not decide. Online pressure is real, but performance is the measure. She stayed calm, did not respond to negativity. Lesson for the community: encourage, do not criticize. Van Trang is a role model. The journey continues with many races. VMM 70km, 100km. Prepare thoroughly. Busy life but dedicated time to running. Family support. Lesson about family and sports. The story ends with Van Trang's message. Just let achievements speak, focus on yourself, ignore gossip. Van Trang has done it, continues the journey. Many Vietnamese runners are waiting for the next race. Y Ti is an ideal destination. Majestic scenery, fresh air. Van Trang conquered, other runners learn from it. Vietnamese sports are developing, many talents. Hope more female runners appear, conquer larger races. Finally, the story ends. (Tổng số từ: 1549)
